SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The Endicott College men's golf team placed third at the University of Southern Maine Invitational Tournament with a team score of, 322, at Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland, Maine on Monday.
Husson College's Adam Duplisea (Hermon, Maine/Hermon) led the Eagles to a first place finish as he carded a three-over-par, 73, to lead the pack. Duplisea shot a 39 on the front nine before turning in a solid par performance on the back nine to lead the Eagles to a 306 total.
Castleton State College placed second with 317 strokes, led by a second place finish with a 74 from senior Bryan Smith (St. Albans, VT/Bellows Free Academy). Endicott was able to hold off a late charge from St. Joseph's College, besting the Monks by a single stroke.
The Gulls were led by a fourth place finish from Andrew LaRocque (Averill Park, NY), who shot a strong 76. Drew Sullivan (Katonah, NY) was just two strokes behind LaRocque, shooting a 78, while teammates Garret Seney (Bow, NH) and Nick Turczak (Housatonic, MA/Monument Mountain Regional) both shot a respectable 84.
The University of Maine Farmington placed fifth with 328 followed by Southern Maine's "Gold" team with 336. Thomas College finished seventh with 341 strokes, while the University of New England (343) and Southern Maine's "Blue" team (344) placed eighth.
Endicott returns to the links on Saturday and Sunday as the Gulls travel to the Chicopee Country Club in Chicopee, MA to partake in the 2007 Division III ECAC New England Golf Championships. Start time is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
