Men's Basketball Holds Off Nichols, 91-87

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's basketball team claimed a 91-87 victory over Nichols College on Friday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.

After closing out the last five minutes of the first half with a 16-8 run, the Gulls never relinquished their lead the rest of the way, despite a few comeback efforts from Nichols, to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) paced Endicott with a career-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor (5-8 3PT | 5-5 FT).

Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) also added 16 points in the victory, while Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) compiled 12 points and six boards.

Billy Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Cameron Ray (Lowell, Mass.) concluded the list of individual highlights with 11 points apiece. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 20-18 all-time against Nichols dating back to 2000.
  • The Gulls are 2-0 at home this season.
  • Nichols brought the game within two points with 4:17 left to play in the second half, but Endicott outscored the Bison 9-7 down the stretch for the win.
  • With his 12-point effort tonight, McDevitt moved past Josh Oxton '05 (1,121 points | 111 career games) on the Endicott all-time scoring list.
  • McDevitt now ranks fifteenth overall on the list with 1,124 career points in 84 games played.
  • The Blue and Green led for 30:25 in tonight's contest.
  • Vitko has reset his career-high for points in three straight games (18 at Suffolk on 3/6 | 19 vs. Suffolk on 3/7).
