BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott student-athletes Clayton Marengi (Lynnfield, Mass.), Colin Meropoulos (Monroe, Conn.), and Tim Russell (Stoneham, Mass.) have all earned Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) weekly awards, as announced by the league office earlier today.
Russell was named the CCC Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week, while Marengi and Meropoulos received Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Week accolades, respectively.
In Endicott's 32-29 loss to Catholic last weekend, Russell had a career-best two interceptions and compiled seven tackles (four solo) to help the Gulls in their comeback bid.
Marengi also put together another strong showing for the Gulls as the sophomore quarterback completed 9-of-15 (60.0 percent) passing attempts for 142 yards, while picking up 39 yards on the ground on six rushes. He also found the end zone on one of those rushes, giving him his only score on the day.
Meanwhile, Meropoulos did a lot to keep last weekend's game close with his play on the defensive line. He recorded six tackles (two solo, four assisted), including three for a loss. Meropoulos also record two sacks for a total of six yards. His last sack forced a turnover-on-downs, giving Endicott a chance to pick up the win with less than a minute left on the game clock. Lastly, all stats recorded by Meropoulos last weekend were personal bests.
Today's announcement marks Russell and Meropoulos' first career honors and Marengi's second straight weekly award.
