CCC Tournament Play Underway

CCC Tournament Play Underway
Regular season play is coming to a close for the fall sports teams and the Gulls have proven they are a force to be reckoned with in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. With all EC teams in the top 4 of conference standings, there will be many athletes vying for a Championship over the next week and a half. Please come out and support your EC GULLS!!!!!!

* Women's Tennis already started tournament play. The Gulls finished second in the regular season with an 8-1 conference record, their only loss to first place Salve Regina. EC beat No. 7 seed Curry in the Quarterfinals 7-2 and No. 3 seed Gordon in the Semifinals on Tuesday, 5-3, to advance on to the Finals. The Championship game will be this Saturday at 1:00 versus Salve Regina in Newport, RI.

* The Women's Soccer team is having an impressive season with an overall record of 15-2-1. The Gulls conference record of 12-0, marks the first time in Endicott women's soccer history that the team was named regular season champions and the first time the team went undefeated in CCC regular season play. Tournament play begins this Saturday at 11am in the stadium versus No. 8 seed Roger Williams. The Gulls beat Roger Williams 7-0 in the regular season. If the Gulls win, they will advance to the Semifinals also at home on Wednesday, November 5th (possible start time of 2:30) and then on to the Finals, Saturday, November 8th at 1:00.

* The Field Hockey team has also completed regular season play with an overall record of 12-7 and a noteworthy 6-1 conference record. The Gulls who have never before won a CCC Championship are in a good position to do so. Last years team lost to New England College in the championship game, but has already avenged the loss with a 5-3 regular season victory over NEC. Their 6-1 record is good for a first place seed giving them a "bye" this weekend. The Gulls will play at home against the winner of the Regis vs. Anna Maria Quarterfinal game on Wednesday November 5th at 1:30pm. EC beat Regis 2-1 during the regular season and Anna Maria 3-0. If the Gulls win next Wednesday they will host the Championship game on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00.

* The Men's Soccer team plays their last regular season conference game this afternoon versus University of New England on the stadium turf. The Gulls record of 6-2-2 in the conference (8-5-4 overall) ranks them 4th in the standings, giving the Gulls home field advantage this Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 versus Colby Sawyer in a Quarterfinal match up. Last years team lost to Colby-Sawyer 2-1 in regular season play and 3-1 in the Quarterfinal match (both games were played away). The 2003 team has already defeated Colby-Sawyer once, in regular season play by a score of 2-0. With another win the Gulls will advance to the Semifinals, which will be played Tuesday, November 4th.

* The Women's Volleyball team has played a very competitive schedule this season. With 10 of their opponents ranked in New England, the Gulls will be ready come tournament time. The Gulls conference record of 6-3 places them 4th in the CCC. Quarterfinals begin on Tuesday, November 4th with EC facing off against No. 5 seed Roger Williams. The Gulls beat Roger Williams 3-0 in the regular season. Last years team won their first playoff game ever, defeating Wentworth 3-1 in the Quarterfinals and eventually lost to Colby-Sawyer 3-0 in the Semifinals. The Gulls have two non-conference matches remaining, which will help warm them up for Tuesday's match. On Friday night (Halloween) the Gulls take on Rhode Island College in the Post Center (7pm start) and then Saturday, November 1st, they play Western Connecticut State (1 pm start), also at home.

* The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will be running in the CCC Championships this Saturday, November, 1st. Both teams finished their regular season 3rd in the conference behind Roger Williams and Gordon. The University of New England is hosting the event beginning with the women's race at 11am followed by the men's race at noon. On the men's side it will be tough to crack the strength of the Roger Williams and Gordon squads. The women's side is a little more open. Senior Lauren Alverson will be striving for a coveted "Top 10" finish, and a berth on the All-Conference team.

* The Football Team is a member of the New England Football Conference (NEFC) not the CCC. The Gulls are off to a great start with a 3-4 overall record (3-3 in the NEFC). They will be away this weekend versus conference rival Nichols at 12:00 and return home Saturday November 8th to conclude their first varsity season with a game versus MIT.

* The Golf Team finished their season with a 10-2 win over Gordon to defend the Ambassador Cup on Homecoming Weekend. The Gulls will lose senior Marc Zirolli to graduation but will look to a core group of sophomores and juniors to lead the team next year.

* The Equestrian Team has competed in two horseshows so far this fall winning numerous ribbons. Sophomore Megan Piermarini has already qualified for Regionals (held in April) and many of her teammates will be looking to do the same over the next few weeks. The team is off this weekend, but will resume riding Saturday, November 8th at Tufts.
