Gulls Edged By Northeastern, Now Move To 7-3 On The Season

HAMILTON, Mass. – The Endicott men's club ice hockey team received their third loss of the season this past weekend in a close 3-5 loss to conference opponent Northeastern. Three different Gulls scored in the contest while senior Clark Dumart (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist. The Blue and Green now sit at 7-3 on the season.

The first period for both sides seemed to be where the magic happened as Endicott tallied two goals to the Huskies three. Senior Chris Murphy (Holden, Mass.) started the scoring early after he finished a play started by Dumart and senior Kevin Butler (Natick, Mass.) as they came out with the assists. Minutes later The Huskies answered back after senior Brandon Beneduce (Boston, Mass.) was able to slip the puck past freshman goaltender Nick Russo (Waltham, Mass.) to tie up the game.

With seven minutes remaining the Huskies took the lead after junior Kyle Demers (Boston, Mass.) finished the play started by teammates Jake Jaeger (Suffern, N.Y.) and Justin Evangelista (East Boston, Mass.). With less than two minutes left to play in the first period senior Tad Gold (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) controlled a feed from goaltender Russo and blasted the puck into the back of the net.

The tie would not last for long however, in the final seconds the trio of Evangelista, Beneduce and Demers slipped another past Russo to take the 3-2 lead to enter the first intermission.

The second period was quiet, but positive for the Blue and Green as they tied the game back up with 11 minutes to play in the period. Dumart snuck the puck past junior goaltender Matthew LaBarge (Lynnfield, Mass.) after controlling the play initiated by the freshman duo of Drew Thibodeau (Peabody, Mass.) and Tyler Peabody (Mendon, Mass.) to make it a 3-3 game entering the third period.

The third period was all Huskies as they tallied two more goals to claim the victory.  Endicott was holding the tie for most of the period but in the final six minutes of play Northeastern was able to get two big goals to shut down the Gulls.

Endicott will pick back up on Saturday, November 23rd when they host Boston College at 7:30 p.m.
