Women’s Volleyball Picks Up AVCA Team Academic Award

2016-17 AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD RECIPIENT LIST 

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's volleyball team has claimed an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for its efforts in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year. It marks the third time in five years the Gulls have received the award.

Endicott also was one of a record 822 teams to claim the award for maintaining a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average (GPA) or better throughout the school year. As a team, the Gulls compiled a 3.44 cumulative GPA.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, celebrating its 25th year, is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients has increased every single year but two, while amassing a 532 team increase over the span of the last decade. Since the award's inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 822.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott captured its fifth Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship with a 3-0 sweep over Western New England University before bowing against Springfield, 3-1, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Gulls also finished tied for 10th overall in the final New England Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (NEWVA) Regional Poll. It's the highest ranking in program history in the poll for Endicott.

Academically, in addition to today's AVCA Team Academic Award announcement, Endicott saw a program record eight student-athletes earn CCC Academic All-Conference honors.
