BEVERLY, Mass. – In our fourth installment of #TrackTuesday, we get to know women's cross country and track & field student-athlete Maeve Kelly (Washingtonville, N.Y.)

Endicott Athletics (EC): Maeve, how do you handle your academics, running, and working in admissions throughout the school year?

Maeve Kelly (MK): It is all a balancing act. Juggling academics, athletics, and work has taught me the valuable skill of time management. I have learned not to procrastinate and to use every second I have wisely. At first it was a huge adjustment, but now I am so thankful I had a schedule to keep me on track in all aspects of my life.

EC: Talk about your excitement for women's track starting next year. It's our understanding that you never ran cross country before coming to Endicott. In high school you were a track athlete.

MK: I am beyond excited to welcome women's track to Endicott. In high school, I played many different sports but finally found my love for running my junior year. When looking for colleges I fell in love with Endicott and was disappointed to hear they didn't offer track. When I met with Coach Lange and the team they encouraged me to try cross country. At first, I struggled when handling the intense mileage but loved our speed workouts. With that I am very excited to get back to my comfort zone and use the benefits of cross country to compete in my favorite mid-distance races.

EC: Discuss your major and what opportunities that have come with it.

MK: I am a sophomore interior design major. It is a lot more than just decorating a pretty room. We learn how to combine architecture and psychology to create the best space for the user. It is a lot of time consuming work but I couldn't picture myself doing anything else. Right now I am on my second internship as a design assistant in Garnerville, N.Y. In this position, I am learning all aspects of the design field, from the business side to the design side, so I am able to see firsthand how a successful firm is run.

EC: Talk about your experiences outside of running at Endicott.

MK: My experience at Endicott so far has been amazing. The location is probably one of my favorite things about Endicott considering not many people can say they go to school across the street from the ocean. This past summer, I stayed at Endicott and work as a tour guide. I was able to experience the North Shore in the summer time. Working in admissions, I've gotten to love the school even more given how much more I've learned about it through working in the department. It has also opened so many doors for me since I get the chance to meet so many people on campus, potential students and their families. I couldn't ask for a better college experience.

EC: What do you want your potential future teammates to know about Endicott, and the program?

MK: I want my future teammates to know that joining cross country was one of the best decisions I have made at Endicott. Not only because of the competition but because of the people I have met, and the skills I've gained that I can use athletically, academically, and professionally. This team is so welcoming and it makes being away from home a whole lot less scary, because before I knew it Endicott became my home, and this team became my family.
