BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Wylie is proud to announce that beginning in the Fall 2017 semester, women's track will be added to the list of NCAA Division III varsity sports sponsored by the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Along with the addition of women's track as a varsity sport, current Endicott men's and women's cross country head coach Spencer Lange has been chosen to guide the women's track program, elevating him to full-time status at the College.

This new offering, which is another step in the department's strategic growth plan, aligns with the College's mission of enhancing student engagement.

"Our student-athletes are a great source of pride for us, and we couldn't be more excited to add another avenue through which they can excel," said Endicott College President Dr. Richard E. Wylie. "We will now have the opportunity to welcome more female student-athletes to the College who are looking to participate in a competitive and supportive NCAA team environment. I can't wait to welcome them to Endicott and cheer them on in 2017."

Brian Wylie echoed Dr. Richard E. Wylie's statements.

"Just as we did a year ago with the addition and success of the men's and women's ice hockey programs, we will embark on offering another sport that will lend to our mission of student engagement offerings," said Brian Wylie. "Moreover, I see this not only as an exciting move for some of our current students, but it also increases the appeal for future student-athletes to pursue an Endicott education. Our goal, which is identical to when we added both men's and women's ice hockey, will be to broaden our footprint regionally and nationally by recruiting the very best academically and athletically driven student-athletes for the women's track program."

Meanwhile, Lange, who will embark on his fourth year at Endicott and second as head coach of both cross country programs this fall, was deemed as a perfect choice to spearhead the women's track program.

Since being tabbed as the head coach for both cross country programs two years ago, Lange has taken the men's program from 39th at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships in 2014 to 21st in 2015, marking an 18-spot improvement which ranks highest among all 50-plus competing teams from last season.

On the women's side, the Gulls have placed 31st overall at NCAA Regionals twice in the last two seasons, while over the past four years Lange has coached one Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Year honoree, one CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection and three All-CCC runners. Academically, Lange has also guided 24 female student-athletes to CCC Academic All-Conference laurels.

Much like Dr. Richard E. Wylie and Brian Wylie, Lange knows what kind of impact adding women's track can have on the future of Endicott, the Department of Athletics and Recreation, and the College's future student-athletes.

"The addition of women's track will serve as a great benefit to both the athletic department and the Endicott community," said Lange. "Dr. Wylie, Mr. Redman, and Brian Wylie continue to seek opportunities to develop Endicott through its athletics programs, and I feel honored that our sport has been chosen to be a major part in the growth of Endicott, as a whole. I am very excited to get started and bring in the first recruiting class to take part in the foundation of the women's track program at Endicott."

The women's track team will call the Beverly High School track its home in the spring for training purposes in addition to using Endicott's state-of-the-art weight room facilities on campus.
