Flynn named Player of the Year, six other Gulls earn All-Conference

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye announced on Friday that Endicott College junior forward Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) has been named TCCC Player of the Year and that six other Gulls have earned All-Conference status.

Eleven different institutions from The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2008 All-TCCC Women's Soccer Team. In addition to the all-conference team, three other major individual award winners and a team sportsmanship award winner were selected along with Flynn. Wentworth Institute of Technology freshman Kristen Kudlic and University of New England freshman Maggie Mahoney were named TCCC Rookies of the Year, Colby-Sawyer College senior Elise Kapp was named TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete, University of New England Coach Doug Biggs was named TCCC Coach of the Year, and Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC field hockey coaches. Joining Flynn, Kudlic and Mahoney on the First Team were forward Ashley Hansbury (Curry), midfielders Amanda daCunha (Roger Williams), Michelle Epstein and Ali Trafton (Univ. of New England), backs Kate Pemberton (Univ. of New England), Sarah Miller (Endicott) and Amanda Whittet (Gordon), and goalkeeper Jen Garside (Roger Williams).

In addition to Kapp, second team selections included forwards Katie Fusaro (Roger Williams) and Debbie Lyons (New England College), midfielders Kaila Gray (Nichols), Kellie Lajoie (Endicott), Kristen O'Gorman (Roger Williams) and Christin Peters (Gordon), backs Kristen Culver (Western New England), Julianna Hamor and Taryn Mancarella (Roger Williams), and goalkeeper Amy Meuse (Endicott).

Earning honorable mention were forwards Heather Mortell (Western New England), Laurin Pendleton (Roger Williams) and Colleen Pepin (Endicott), midfielders Carey Baldwin (Roger Williams), Kayla Corbett (Endicott) and Mandy Hibbard (Curry), backs Lucy Brown (Wentworth) Eileen Endyke (Colby-Sawyer), Patricia Horton (Curry), Victoria Hunt (Endicott) and Ryan Murphy (Salve Regina), and goalkeeper Abby Ytzen (Gordon).

Flynn, a native of Southold, N.Y., was selected TCCC Player of the Year as she led the conference in points, while also coming in tied for second in goals and third in assists. In TCCC play, the junior scored 14 goals, and also dished out six assists for a total of 34 points, leading the Gulls to an outstanding 12-0-1 mark in conference.

Kudlic, a native of Feeding Hills, Mass., was named TCCC Rookie of the Year for her stellar performance this season as she led the conference in goals with 15, also adding two assists for a total of 32 points which tied her for second in TCCC play.

Mahoney, a Newburyport, Mass. native, was tabbed TCCC Rookie of the Year for her stellar freshman season in which she finished tied for second in both goals (14) and total points (32). Helping lead the Nor'easters to a 10-3 mark in TCCC competition.

Kapp, an Exercise and Sports Science major from Yarmouth Port, Mass., has a 3.62 GPA at Colby-Sawyer College. In addition to her impressive work as a student, Kapp has excelled on the field as well, she ranks eight in the conference in total points and tied for seventh in both goals and assists. She finished her senior campaign with 20 points on eight goals and four assists in TCCC play.

In his 18th season as head coach at the University of New England, Biggs led the Nor'easters to an impressive turnaround which saw them go from a 5-7-1 record in TCCC play in 2007, to a 10-3 conference record and the \#3 seed in the upcoming TCCC Championship.
