SENIOR SEND-OFF: Sam Jones, Endicott Women's Lacrosse Program

(The goal of our Senior Send-Off articles is to highlight teams and student-athletes who did not get to finish their season of competition and/or have their respective Senior Day games/events happen. We also hope that these stories serve as a positive light to anyone who reads them during these trying times.)

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse program finished its 2020 season with an overall 4-0 record before the NCAA's decision to cancel all remaining winter and spring championships due to COVID-19.

Beyond their overall record, the Gulls made program history twice this season earning their first-ever national ranking at No. 20, while also beating No. 16 Trinity 11-10 on March 4, which was their first win over a nationally-ranked opponent since 2014 (No. 13 Bates 11-10 on March 19, 2014.). More importantly, the team's success over the past three and a half years which has culminated by three conference championships was spearheaded by senior defender Samantha Jones (Franklin, Mass.) - whose legacy will forever have an impact on the program athletically and academically. Here's what women's lacrosse head coach Maureen Spellman had to say about Sam.

"Sam's dedication to the growth of the women's lacrosse program will never be forgotten. Her spirit, passion, and legacy along with this 2020 team will be the mark of a new era for the program. Sam is the epitome of the word leadership. She is selfless, strong, self motivated, and works tirelessly to serve others. She is one of the most caring and supportive young ladies I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. Whatever Sam does, whatever decision or action, it was for the team. I can give no higher praise to a young athlete than being a true leader."
