Landry Named CCC Rookie of the Year as Gulls Finish 4th at CCC Championship

BRISTOL, R.I.- The Endicott men's cross country team competed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship this Saturday on the campus of Roger Williams and finished in fourth place in the nine team field.

Leading the way for the Gulls were sophomore Zach Marshall (Hinesburg, Vt.) and freshman Austin Landry (Readfield, Maine), as both runners earned All-CCC honors for their performance in the race. Marshall finished fifth in a time of 26:36.78 while Landry finished eighth in a time of 26:47.59. Landry's finish as the top freshman in the race earned him CCC Rookie of the Year honors, marking the second time in the past three seasons an Endicott runner has received the distinction, joining Noah Mondello (Gloucester, Mass.) who won the award in 2013.

Sophomore James Dwyer (Berlin, Conn.) finished 20th overall with a time of 28:06.35, his first top-20 showing of the year. Noah Mondello performed well, crossing in a time of 28:27.57 to finish 28th as freshman Brendan Sasse (Westport, Mass.) closed out the Endicott scoring, finishing 46th in a time of 28:57.35.

Head coach Spencer Lange stated, "I am thrilled for the guys after their race today.  Both Zach and Austin finished in the top 10 while James finished in 20th.  Strong performances all around for the men with almost everyone running a personal record.  A series of unfortunate events with course direction led to a bit of an unusual finish to the race.  With about 1.5 miles to go, several runners in the race who were in 12-16th place, made a wrong turn to take them off course.  The end result brought us to 4th place.  I am confident in the way the CCC is handling this issue, they are taking the appropriate steps to ensure they resolve the issue every team affected by the situation.  This competition is extremely competitive which brings out the best in all of the student-athletes.  Austin was also awarded the male CCC Rookie of the Year. His consistent effort and commitment to improve has earned him with that honor."
