The Pilgrims from New England College stopped EC field hockey's quest for a Commonwealth Conference Championship today at NEC's home field. EC ends their season with an overall record of 14-7.
This championship game was evenly matched between fourth seed Endicott and third seed NEC. NEC's Jess Hanson scored the first goal of the game 13:36 into the first half. The Gulls fought back to tie the game with five minutes left in the first half. The play develop as senior Erica Plasse crossed the ball in front the goal. With a scramble in front of the net, senior Jen McCormack was able to redirect a shot past NEC's goalkeeper Jacqui Parker to tie the game.
Both teams battled in the second half for the lead. It was NEC's Brittany Vogrin that was able to finish the play for the Pilgrims with 26:06 left in the second half. EC out shot NEC 23-12 but was unable to capitalize from behind.
EC's goalkeeper Erin Curry tallied ten saves.
Senior forward Kim Doody was selected CCC Player of the Year. Kim Doody and senior forward Jen McCormack both were selected to the CCC first team, and Ashley Wallace was selected to the CCC second team.
