Kevin Eagan named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week

Kevin Eagan named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week
BEVERLY, Mass. - Senior defensive end Kevin Eagan (West Hartford, Conn.) recorded a game-high 13 tackles and made two highlight reel interceptions in a 49-0 Endicott win over Plymouth State on Homecoming Weekend.  For his efforts, he was named this week's NEFC Defensive Player of the Week.

In the second quarter and the Panthers driving deep into the Gulls zone, Eagan would record his first interception of the game.  On 1st and goal on the two, Eagan and junior linebacker Peter Kallas (Beverly, Mass.) both had long tackles for a loss on Plymouth State running attempts.  On third and goal from the 11-yard line, Plymouth State quarterback Joey Avila dropped back to pass and after he pushed his lineman deep into the backfield, Eagan deflected Avila's throw straight into the air and made a leaping interception.

Eagan's second interception came on Plymouth State's very next possession.  On their own 20-yard line, Avila once again dropped back to pass on third down.  Avila scrambled, put the ball in the air but Endicott linebacker Andrew Holfinger (Sterling, Mass.) broke up the pass and Eagan dove to make the pick.

Both interceptions led to Endicott rushing touchdowns by senior Mike Lane (Medfield, Mass.) who had a record-breaking four touchdown game against the Panthers.  For his efforts, Lane was named to the NEFC Honor Roll.

Eagan amassed a game-high 13 tackles against Plymouth State, including two tackles for a loss of eight yards.  Six of his tackles were solo efforts.  He now has a team-high 55 tackles, 12.5 TFL and four sacks on the season.

The Gulls will look to continue their undefeated 2011 campaign next Saturday at 1:00 pm against NEFC Boyd Division opponent UMass Dartmouth at Endicott Stadium.  It will be their final regular season home game of the season.
