Endicott Gulls Handle Marist Red Foxes

Endicott Gulls Handle Marist Red Foxes

Nov. 6, 2006

As the Gulls hosted the Marist College Red Foxes on Saturday, line-mates senior captain Mike Manfredi and freshman Drew Moore took charge of the game early, each lighting the lamp three times for hat-tricks. As always, the Gulls came out flying against a reputable Marist team hoping to notch another hard fought win. In the first period alone, the Gulls notched three tally's, with two beautiful goals by Mike Manfredi early on to put the Gulls up 2-0. Matt Murray had the first start of his collegiate career, and certainly made the most of the opportunity. Murray kept the Gulls in the game and preserved the lead in the early going, making some strong saves, against a very talented Marist team. However, Marist countered when a defensive miscue got the Red Foxes on the scoreboard, closing the gap to 2-1. The Gulls entire squad answered back from the goal with extremely aggressive forecheck that paid off when Brian Sullivan took a shot on net that popped up in the air, and a streaking Bryan Caccamo came in to swat the puck out of the air and into the net, putting the Gulls up 3-1, and at the conclusion of the first period.

The second period called for a quick Drew Moore goal to put the home team up 4-1, which was answered right back by Marist to keep the Endicott lead to two. Following the Marist goal, Moore sniped another goal from a beautiful feed from Gabe Carreiro and Mike Manfredi to put the Gulls up 5-2. Manfredi came back and notched his final goal to complete the hat-trick, right off of a face-off past the Marist goalie. The second period came to a close shortly after the Manfredi hat-trick goal as the Gulls increase the lead to 5-2.

The third period seemed to be a never ending back and forth play until Marist got back on the board on a great individual effort making the lead 5-3. However, Drew Moore had one more goal in him for the night as he tipped a rocket of a shot from the point by sophomore Brad Butcher for his third goal of the game. After the last of the scoring was over, the remainder of the game was simply Marist trying to hold on to some dignity as Manfredi, Moore, Murray and the rest of the Gulls denied them of the win on the road. The Gulls will travel to Bryant on Friday, November 10 for an 8:10pm start.
