Gulls Beat Bridgewater with Room to Spare

Oct. 25, 2006

On Wednesday night the gulls traveled to Bridgewater to face the Bridgewater State Bears. At the start of the first period the gulls looked a bit sluggish as it took them the first half of the period before they were able to generate any offense. At 12:19 freshman Matt Guidotti scored the first goal of the period and of the game, the assist came from a hard working Chris Garofalo. The next seven minutes of the game were even play by both teams until two freshman Gulls, Pat Bourque sent Matt Nardone on a breakaway with a less than orthodox breakaway finish. The gulls were now up 2-0 as the period came to a close.

The second period was a continuation of the first with the gulls striking another two times, the first coming from a nice shot from junior forward Brian Sullivan on the power-play and the second coming from a shot from the point by Brett Erickson on the power-play and the gulls were now up 4-0 at the end of the second period.

It seemed that the gulls would never stop scoring and the Bears would never come around to stop them. The beginning of the third period was yet another continuation of the first and second periods where the gulls scored just three minutes in. Senior forward Mike Manfredi marked his second goal of the season when he netted, what would be the final goal the Gulls would score for the night. The game was capped off by a last minute goal by the Bears to spoil the Josh Provost shutout. The goals from Erickson and Nardone mark the first of their young collegiate careers, with the hopes of many more to come. The gulls will be hosting the Westfield State Owls on Saturday @ 7:00pm.
