No. 6/14 Baseball Handles MIT, 13-3

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 6/14 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated MIT, 13-3, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at North Field.

WP (1-0): Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) – 7 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 11 K
LP (0-2): Saketh Gabbita (Ashburn, Va.) – 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K

The Gulls scored eight unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Thomas Barbieri (Cranston, R.I.) highlighted the offense with his first career multi-homer game.

Barbieri launched a solo homer to left center in the fifth (5-2 lead) and blasted another solo homer to deep center in the sixth (8-2). The senior catcher finished the contest going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI, and one walk.

Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) also drove in four runs in the lopsided victory.

Following a two-run homer in the first inning, Cannata took over on the bump recording three 1-2-3 innings (2nd, 4th, 6th), while striking out four straight at one point – including the side in the fourth inning (all looking).

Cannata also tied his career-high for strikeouts today (11 vs. Curry, 3/22/22) and pitched his longest outing of the 2023 season, to date.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 15-6 all-time against MIT.
  • Endicott is 10-0 at home this season.
  • Grabowski has compiled three or more RBI in five games this spring.
