Holmgren Named Best Defensive First Baseman in the Nation

BEVERLY, Mass. – Senior Brett Holmgren (Middleboro, Mass.) was recognized for his defensive work at first base when he was named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America Gold Glove Team.

This is the first member of Endicott to be nationally recognized on this team, which honors the singular best defensive player at each position.

Holmgren played 45 games for the Gulls at first base and had a fielding percentage of .996, making just two errors in 478 total chances. He by far exceeded the Endicott record for most chances in a season set the mark for most putouts in a season (443) and his career fielding percentage of .996 is second-best all-time for the Blue and Green.

Holmgren led the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in putouts, chances, and fielding percentage for players qualified with over 120 chances. He was also part of 41 double plays turned, which led the team and the conference.

Holmgren was one of just two members from New England to be honored on this prestigious defensive team, as he was joined by senior outfielder Trevor Boyce from Babson College.

Holmgren and the Gulls won a record 35 games this season, capturing their first CCC title since 2006 and coming within one game of the College World Series.
