SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Endicott College freshman infielder Matthew Paola (Middlebury, Conn.) earned his first conference honor as a Gull, as he was named this past week's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.
In a 5-1 week for the Gulls, Paola batted .435 (10-for-23) with one double, seven RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases. In addition to picking up three hits and four RBI in a 9-7 victory over Suffolk which entered play sporting a 21-5 record, Paola batted .500 (7-for-14) with three RBI, three runs and two steals as the Gulls turned in CCC sweeps of Nichols and Curry. He batted safely in all four CCC contests.
Endicott's lone setback this past week came at #18 Southern Maine. The Blue and Green improved to 23-11 on the season and how have a 13-1 mark in the CCC.
The Gulls will return to action on Thursday afternoon when they host Westfield State for a 4:00 pm non-conference game.
