Endicott Cracks New England Top Eight; Finished 7th in Final Baseball Poll

May 27, 2004

(Beverly, MA) With a win over Amherst and two close losses to Western New England in the NCAA regional tournament, Endicott finished the 2004 season at 27-21 ranked 7th in the eight-team final New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association Poll. The Gulls had never been ranked in the top eight prior to this poll, receiving only "mentions" in the last two weeks' rankings.

In addition Matt Bishop was one of only 13 players who earned New England Regional All Tournament Team honors. In Endicott's three games Bishop was 6 for 13 (.461) at home plate and pitched 9.2 innings allowing only one earned run. He was crucial element of the Gulls' victory over Amherst: going 4-5 at bat and pitching 2 innings of relief to stop an eighth inning Amherst rally while picking up a save. Bishop pitched 7.2 innings against Western New England and had a no-hitter through five innings. He finished with one earned run, six strike outs and no walks. In Endicott's three trips to the regional tournament (2000, 2003, 2004), Bishop is the first player to make the All Tourney Team.

Final New England Rankings 1. Eastern Connecticut (39-9) 2. Bridgewater State (26-16) 3. Southern Maine (31-13-1) 4. Western New England (33-14) 5. Trinity (27-9) 6. Babson (24-19) 7. Endicott (27-21) 8. Amherst (19-18)
