(Beverly, MA) Endicott's Jack Brancaleone picked up where Jamie Turner left off and threw his own shut out in the night cap against New England College. He scattered three hits and survived a scary fifth and seventh to preserve the shut out and get his first win of the season.
New England College pitcher, Steve Porter, pitched well enough to win himself by allowing just three hits. However, Endicott scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth when Mark Vaughan scored his third run of the day. Ryan Seward led off with a single he stole second and went to third on the same play as the ball went into center field. Vaughan was hit by a pitch to make it first and third with no outs. Vaughan stole second. Dustin Aiguier's safety squeeze attempt failed, but Vaughan moved to third. Aiguier then stole second base. Dave Babiarz got a clutch single to left scoring Vaughan, and Aiguier was cut down at the plate trying to score from second.
New England College rallied in the fifth and seventh when they got runners to first and second with no outs each time. In the fifth, Brancaleone induced a fielder's choice out at third, a strike out and a line drive out to Babiarz at third. In the seventh, he got another fielder's choice out at third, an unassisted out at first and pop up to end the game.
Endicott improves to 11-9 and 6-2 in CCC play. NEC is 2-11 and 1-5 in CCC play.
