Endicott Falls to Springfield and #17 MIT

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team fell to Springfield and #17 MIT on Saturday at the second day of the MIT Invitational. The Gulls were tripped up by the Pride 3-0 before losing a tough 3-1 decision to the nationally ranked hosts. 

The Endicott offense struggled on Saturday after four straight matches of hitting .243 or higher coming into the day. The Gulls' best performance came against MIT as Endicott hit .175 for the match, posting an impressive 50 kills in just four sets of action. Against the Engineers, Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) posted a team-best 14 kills from the right side while hitting .400. Setter Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) finished with 42 assists and nine digs, while libero Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) continued her strong play, posting 14 digs. 

Freshmen Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) combined for 12 kills on 29 swings. Senior Emily Diezemann (Peabody, Mass.) enjoyed a solid day all-around, finishing with six kills and three blocks. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The match against MIT, ranked #17 in the most recent AVCA DIII Top 25, was the first of two straight matches against nationally ranked foes. Endicott will travel to #6 JWU in Providence, R.I. on Wednesday for a 6 PM start.
  • With her defensive performance this weekend, Kennedy has eclipsed 500 digs in her Endicott career.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott travels to #6 JWU on Wednesday before returning home to host Brandeis on Friday at 5 PM.
