Wheaton (Mass.) Scores At Buzzer To Defeat Women's Basketball, 59-57

BEVRLY, Mass. — The Endicott Women's Basketball team fell at the buzzer on Saturday night to Wheaton (Mass.), 59-57, inside MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Gulls fell behind by as many as six in the fourth quarter but battled all the way back to tie the game at 57 following a Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) layup with four seconds left. On the enusing inbound, Wheaton was able to get into the paint and pull out the win. 

Endicott led 11-9 after the first quarter and 27-25 at the break thanks to 10 points from Fleming along with seven from Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) as the Gulls shot 32.3 percent from the field.

However, Wheaton came out aggressive in the second half, as the would take the lead and it would go back-and-forth between the teams with the third quarter featuring five ties and five lead changes.

Fleming led the Gulls' efforts, posting 16 points on 7-18 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) was another double-digit scorer for Endicott with 15 points as she collected nine rebounds (three offensive), dished out an assist, and had three steals. 

Shinney also delivered for the Gulls, as she scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This is the first matchup between the two schools.
  • Fleming tied a career-high with 16 points.
  • Career high 14 points for Shinney.
  • Game featured 15 ties and 15 lead changes.

Endicott (0-3) travels to Emerson on Tuesday, November 21 at 5:30 PM. Wheaton (2-2) travels to Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, November 21 at 6 PM.
