Emerson rallies past Gulls,59-56
Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Emerson College rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to hand the Endicott College women’s basketball team their second consecutive loss, 59-56, on Tuesday night in Boston, Mass. The Lions scored five points in the final 23 seconds to come from behind and defeat the Gulls in a non-conference game at Emerson’s Brown & Plofker Gym.

The Lions trailed by nine points with 1:13 remaining following two free throws by the Gulls’ \#Ceciley Chisholm\# (Lexington, Mass.). Emerson missed two chances and Chisholm got the rebound, but a steal by the Lions’ Olivia DiNuccii (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led to a Jackie Williams (Lorton, Va.) three ball that pulled Emerson to within 56-50.

A Gull foul gave the ball back to Emerson, and DiNucci then nailed her only three pointer of the night on an assist from Sherman to make it a one possession game. After an exchange of time outs, Williams made a steal on the inbounds play and missed the front end, but nailed the second free throw to narrow the margin to 56-54. Emerson’s Amy Sherman then fouled the Gulls’ \#Jen McBrien\# (Medfield, Mass.), who missed the free throw, and the Lions’ Lauren Zaniboni rebounded. Sherman found Theresa McCabe (Rye, N.Y.) for the three ball that gave the Lions their first lead since the 15:33 mark when Emerson led 9-8.

Endicott forged a 34-25 halftime lead following a 14 point run that stretched a 19-15 lead to 33-15. The Lions answered with a 10-1 run to close the half and claw back into the game. Williams opened the second half with a three to get Emerson within six, but six straight points by Endicott stretched the lead back to a dozen. The Gulls went up 48-34 on a Chisholm layup with 6:16 left, and led 52-38 at the 5:29 mark on two McBrien free throws.

A Williams three started the Emerson comeback and a DiNucci jumper cut the margin to seven. Two \#Kaylin Burke\# (Leominster, Mass.) foul shots moved the score to 54-45, and after Williams hit a layup, Chishilom’s two free throws set the stage for the Lions comeback.

Williams led all scorers with 20 points including five three point shots. Zaniboni had a dozen rebounds for Emerson. Burke dropped in 17 for Endicott and Chisholm added 14.

Endicott will finish first semester play when the Gulls host Bridgewater State College on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. Emerson will host Fitchburg State College at noon on Saturday in a non-conference matchup.
