Atkins, Favreau Claim CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team Honors

ALL-DISTRICT® FIRST TEAM RELEASE | ALL-TIME ENDICOTT COSIDA HONOREES LIST

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott softball student-athletes Peyton Atkins (Goshen, N.Y.) and Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) have received CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team honors, as announced by the organization yesterday.

Atkins and Favreau will now appear on the national ballot for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® team, which will be voted on by Sports Information Directors from across the country and be released on Tuesday, June 9.

This is the first time both student-athletes have received CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team honors in their respective careers. Both Atkins and Favreau are the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) representatives on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team list as well.


PEYTON ATKINS | SR. | C | GOSHEN, N.Y.

Academically, Atkins sports a 3.92 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a biology & biotechnology major at Endicott. Atkins' GPA is tied for the second-highest GPA among her peers on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 1 First Team, which includes programs from Massachusetts and Maine.

Upon graduation from Endicott, Atkins will attend the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine to obtain her doctorate in veterinary medicine.

Atkins' other academic accomplishments/pursuits as a Gull include her thesis on "Evaluating the Effects of Human Handling Methods on Equine Stress Behaviors," induction into the Phi Sigma Biological and Mortar Board Honor Societies, two CCC Academic All-Conference awards, selection to the Endicott College Scholars Program, and participation in the LIGHThouse Leadership Society and the Biotech Society.

In addition to those items, Atkins has served as a peer tutor and student note taker for Endicott's Division of Academic Success, participated in Relay for Life at the College for four years, and volunteered with Beautiful People (adaptive sports for children with disabilities) since 2012.

She also has completed internships at the Valley Cottage Animal Hospital (veterinary assistant/receptionist/kennel attendant), Windrush Farm (veterinary intern/therapeutic riding assistant), Equilibrium Veterinary Services (veterinary intern), Pfizer (in-vivo oncology laboratory assistant), VCA Orange County Veterinary Hospital (veterinary intern), Pine Bush Equine (veterinary intern), and Bear Mountain Zoo and Historical Society (zookeeping intern).

Meanwhile, her lab skills include the following: in-vivo animal studies with mice, necropsy, blood handling and sampling, prep for automated machine analysis, next-generation DNA sequencing with Illumina MiSeq, agilent bioanalyzer, ELISA, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, reverse transcription PCR, Western Blot, spectrophotometry, cell-based assay, aseptic technique, cell culture, tissue culture, and pipetting.

Athletically, Atkins boasts a .278/.394/.392 slash line (.avg/.obp/.slg) as a catcher to go along with 31 runs scored, 44 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 22 RBI, 22 walks, and three stolen bases in 68 career games. Defensively, Atkins has a .982 fielding percentage (234 PO, 38 A, 5 E, 277 TC) and has thrown out 15 base runners.

Atkins currently ranks third all-time lowest stolen base percentage against (.545) and runners picked off, seventh in runners caught stealing, No. 19 in highest fielding percentage, and No. 20 in putouts (234).


ADRIANNA FAVREAU | JR. | INF | TEWKSBURY, MASS.

Academically, Favreau bolsters a 3.87 GPA as a biology & biotechnology major (pre-veterinary track) at Endicott.

She was only one of two juniors selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 1 First Team out of 11 student-athletes total. Her GPA also is the fourth-highest overall on the list.

Meanwhile, Favreau's internship experiences include time at the New England Wildlife Center, Woburn Animal Hospital, MSPCA, and Shawsheen Animal Hospital.

During those experiences, Favreau has performed procedures including suturing, x-rays, medicine administration, tube feeding, and wound changing. She also has completed vaccinations, blood draws, blood tests, and cytology lab work.

Some of her lab skills also range from gel electrophoresis and PCR, to basic cell culture, and aseptic techniques, among others. She also has observed many surgeries, ultrasound procedures, and x-ray techniques.

Alongside those academic skills, Favreau has served as a peer tutor for Endicott's Division of Academic Success, is CRLA certified, has garnered multiple Dean's List honors, earned one CCC Academic All-Conference award, and has been inducted into both the Phi Sigma and Mortar Board National Honor Societies.

Favreau's accomplishments on the diamond are equally impressive.

In just two seasons, Favreau has claimed the following honors: the CCC Rookie of the Year (2018), NCAA Tournament Union Regional All-Tournament Team accolades (2019), one All-CCC First Team selection (2019), one All-CCC Second Team honor (2018), and two CCC Rookie of the Week awards (3/19/18, 4/16/18).


CoSIDA Academic All-District® Program Requirements

The CoSIDA Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances.

All First Team Academic All-District® winners, which includes eight districts total, move to the national ballot and are then voted upon to the national team by members of CoSIDA's Academic All-America Committee. Endicott's district – District 1 – includes all schools from Massachusetts and Maine.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
