Endicott named number two seed in NCAA Regional Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College softball team has been named the number two seed in the Plattsburgh, N.Y. Region of the NCAA Softball Tournament. The Gulls will be traveling to New York to take on seventh-seeded Keuka College.

Endicott has had an excellent season so far, going 38-4 overall and 22-2 in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls swept through the TCCC Tournament, surrendering just one run in three games to win their sixth-straight conference championship. EC was led in the tournament by seniors Jenn Elwell (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, Conn.). Elwell went 2-0 with two complete game shutouts, including one in the conference championship game versus Nichols College. She had 11 strikeouts in 14 innings without a walk, hit batsman, or wild pitch. Pearson batted .667 for the tournament with a team-high three RBI. She delivered the team's only home run while compiling an outstanding 1.167 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base percentage.

During the season the Green and Blue were led by junior catcher Meghan Sargent. Sargent led the team in hits (42), doubles (11), home runs (6), RBI (33), and total bases (71) on way to being named the TCCC Player of the Year for the second-straight season.

Keuka College went 23-7 overall while capturing their second-straight North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship. Storm pitcher Jen Shaughnessy (LeRoy, N.Y.) was named NEAC Tournament MVP. Shaughnessy went 3-0 while surrendering only one earned run in 16 innings, compiling an ERA of just 0.56. She struck out 13 while holding opposing hitters to a .153 batting average.

Overall, the Storm are led by freshman Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario) who had a team-high 41 hits, five home runs, 38 RBI, 66 total bases, and a powerful .695 slugging percentage. Fredricks was named NEAC Player of the Year.
