Gulls hit the trails hard at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Endicott College men's and women's cross country teams raced at the University of New England this weekend finishing sixth and third place respectively. Senior Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, Mass.) and current TCCC Rookie and Runner of the Week Greg Payne (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the way for the Gulls with strong finishes.

For the women, Nicole Prokop was able to finish as the top TCCC runner with a time of 21:33 finishing in fourth place out of 50 runners in the 5k (3 miles) . The Gulls were able to finish in third place as Prokop was helped by strong runs from her fellow teammates. Junior Megan McGraw (Georgia, Vt.) was able to finish a mere :20 seconds behind Prokop with a time of 21:53 allowing her to finish in seventh place. Lynne Gallagher (Lowell, Mass.) and Kelly Cameron (Barrington, R.I.) were able to finish six seconds apart at times of 23:04 and 23:10 as they finished in 16th and 17th place respectively.

The University of Southern Maine was able to take home the win in the team event as three of their runners topped the field. Gabrielle Cyr (Fort Kent, Maine), Sarah Myrick (Weybridge, Vt.), and Carly Dion (Biddeford, Maine) were able to take the top three spots for the Huskies with times of 21:05, 21:09, and 21:22 respectively. The University of New England claimed second place while the Gulls rounded out the top three.

In the men's race, freshman Greg Payne led the Gulls for the third straight week as he was able to finish in eleventh place out of 67 runners with a time of 29:34 on the 8k (5 miles) course. Steve Bouchard (Saratoga, N.Y.) and Sam Turner (Portland, Maine) also finished strong for Endicott as they finished with times of 32:59 and 33:25 good for back to back finishes in 35th and 36th place respectively.

Southern Maine was able to win the men's side of the race as well as the Huskies were able to take the top four spots in the race. Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine), JJ Forcella (Falmouth, Maine), and Alex Gomes (Peabody, Mass.) took the top positions as they finished with times of 28:01, 28:31, and 28:45 respectively. UNE sophomore Matt Veiga (Lynn, Mass.) finished as the top TCCC runner with a time of 28:51 which allowed him to finish in fifth place.

The Blue and Green return to the trails this Saturday as they travel to Dartmouth, Massachusetts for a meet on the campus of UMass-Dartmouth. The men will run at 11:15 a.m. while the women take off at 12:00 p.m.
