4/17 Quincy, MA - The men's tennis team, playing in its fourth match in five days, fell to Eastern Nazarene, 0-9, earlier today. The Gulls, one of the youngest teams in the CCC, lost each singles match in straight sets.
Several matches were competitive, however. 1st singles player Brian Goldmeier played a strong first set; he led early on, before losing, 4-6, and then dropped the second set, 0-6.
Jeff Parker, playing 5th singles, lost a hard fought 4-6, 4-6 decision. "We've played a lot of tennis this week, and I think today it caught up with us," said Coach Mark Herlihy. "In the early stages of many of the matches, we were hanging in there and battling. As the matches wore on, however, we wilted a bit."
The previous day, the Gulls lost 1-8 to reigning CCC champs Salve Regina, the one win coming by default when a Salve player sustained an injury in his doubles match and didn't play singles.
The Gulls return to action on Tuesday, May 20, when they host Curry College (3:30 start).
