BEVERLY, MA - In perhaps their most complete team effort of the season, Endicott College shot 64.8% from the field in a 101-72 win over the Bison of Nichols College at the MacDonald Gymnasium in Beverly, MA.
The Gulls came out hot in the opening half, as Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) put the Blue and Green up five with a turn-around jumper for the hoop and the foul. Endicott then started dialing it in from long-range, as Ross Stewart (Palm Harbor, FL/East Lake High School) checked in for Endicott and promptly hit a 3-ball, putting the Gulls up 19-7 with 12:45 remaining in the first frame. On the very next possession, Endicott's Graham Whitelaw (Kennebunk, ME/Cheverus) connected from behind-the-arc for three more, extending the Endicott lead to 13.
The Gulls kept the pressure on in the first 20:00 minutes, as Gary Corbett knocked down a step-back three pointer from NBA range, building the Endicott lead to 16. The Gulls would close out the first half with a total of six three-pointers, capped off by another Whitelaw three, sending the home team into the break with a 48-25 lead.
The second half was much of the same for the Blue and Green, as Endicott would push their lead to as many as 29 following a three-pointer from Kevin McGuire (New City, NY/Albertus Magnus). The afternoon was capped off by a heads-up, behind the back pass from Tristan Irish (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) to a wide open Davis Saltmarsh (Bow, NH/Bow) as Endicott cruised to an easy 101-72 victory in front of 400-plus on Saturday. In all, Endicott would shoot 8-of-15 from behind the arc and 64.8% from the field on the day.
Endicott put four players into double figures, as Mike Sullivan (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) and Todd Burton (Lynn, MA/St. Mary's/Canterbury School) led the way for the Gulls with 14 points apiece. Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Second Baptist, Houston, TX) fell just one rebound shy of picking up his ninth double-double in his last 11 games, as he chipped in 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.
Nichols was led by a pair of double digit scorers, as Ryan Wilcox (West Granby, CT/Granby) had a team-high 13 points on five-of-eleven shooting. Junior forward Chris Vallee (Fitchburg, MA/Oakmont) had 12 points and three rebounds in the losing effort.
With the win, Endicott improves to 12-9 overall and 10-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott returns to work on Tuesday night as they welcome North Shore and CCC foe Gordon College onto campus. The Gulls dropped a heart breaking 73-69 decision to the Fighting Scots on January 20th. The rematch tips at 8:00 PM.
