Konopka, Capsalis named players of the week by NEFC
Beverly, Mass. – One day after the Endicott football team defeated NEFC Boyd-Division rival Curry in dramatic fashion, two individuals were honored by the conference for their standout performances. Junior quarterback \#Phil Konopka\# (Shelton, Conn.) and senior defensive back \#Kyle Capsalis\# (Townsend, Mass.) were named co-offensive and co-defensive player of the week, respectively.

Konopka earns weekly accolades for the fourth time this season. This is the first player of the week nod for the quarterback. Konopka orchestrated another fourth quarter comeback to propel the Blue and Green to a 28-24 win over Curry on homecoming weekend. He finished 26-for-41 with 297 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Konopka led the Gulls on consecutive scoring drives in the fourth quarter to erase an 11-point deficit.   In the fourth quarter alone, the senior completed 7-of-9 passes for 129 yards and two scores. The final touchdown came in the form of a 56 yard pass to junior wide receiver \#Ryan Carino\# (Stratford, Conn.).

Capsalis finished the game with six tackles and one interception. His play in the fourth quarter, specifically, kept the Colonels from mounting a late-game comeback of their own.
With the Gulls leading 28-24, Capsalis intercepted a pass at the Endicott 42-yard line to give the offense the ball back with 3:31 remaining in the game.   After Curry got the ball back and marched all the way to the Endicott 19, Capsalis broke up a pass on fourth-and-seven to secure the win.

At 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NEFC Boyd, the Blue and Green sit tied atop the league standings with WNEC and Plymouth State. Next week, the Gulls take on conference-foe Nichols at Endicott Stadium.
