Six Players Honored by NEFC

Sophomore athlete Orlando Johnson (Newport, RI) received Defensive First Team All-Conference Honors as announced by the New England Football Conference. During the season Johnson earned Player of the Week once and Honorable Mention twice.

Johnson led the league in interceptions with six for the season. He was also first in the conference in passes defended, and 6th in the nation in this category. In addtion, he was 5th in the conference with 272 yards in punt returns, his longest return being 76 yards, and 4th in kick returns totaling 393 yards. "To be voted to the first-team as a sophomore is a great accomplishment, of course being number six in the nation in passes defended does not hurt," Head Coach JB Wells said of his defensive back.

Endicott College student athlete Gerard Festa (Revere, MA) received an Honorable Mention to the All-Conference Team as listed by the New England Football Conference for his exceptional play this season.

Gerard Festa

Festa was 10th in the NEFC in scoring with 48 points in 10 contests, averaging 4.8 points per game. "Gerard had numbers that certainly placed him as one of the premier running backs in the NEFC," Head Coach JB Wells said. "What the numbers don't show is his great ability to block and catch the football, making him a very complete player."

Endicott College sophomore (Stoughton, MA) Joe Leaver received Honorable Mention as announced by the New England Football Conference.

Joe Leaver

"Joe is a `first-team' guy in my eyes," Head Coach JB Wells said. "He draws double teams but still manages to make plays." During this past season, Leaver earned Honorable Mention as Defensive Player of the Week.

Sophomore Jay Munroe earned Honorable Mention for the All-Conference Team, as listed by the New England Football Conference for his standout performances this year on the football field.

Jay Munroe

Munroe (Beverly, MA) led the Gulls in tackles from his linebacker spot. He was vital to a defense that held opponents to just 94.8 yards per game on the ground. "Jay is the consummate team player," Coach Wells said. "He is a great player but an even better leader and person. Every coach should be as lucky to work with a kid like him."

Sophomore offensive lineman Angelo Perrina (Reading, MA) received Honorable Mention for the All-Conference Team, as announced by the New England Football Conference for his outstanding performances on the football field.

Angelo Perrina

"Angelo was the only Offensive Lineman to start in all 10 games. He was integral in our run and pass protection schemes," Head Coach JB Wells said.

Endicott College student athlete Kevin Samaha (Concord, NH) received Honorable Mention to the All-Conference Team as listed by the New England Football Conference (NEFC).

Kevin Samaha

"He has all the qualities of a great tight end: strength, speed, good hands and a tough blocker," Head Coach JB Wells said. "His stats this year showed it."

The Gulls finished second in the NEFC Boyd Division with a 5-1 record, 6-4 overall. This marks the program's first winning season, as the Gulls were 4-5 last year in their first varsity season.
