Gulls Lose At Fitchburg State

The Gulls snapped their 3 game winning streak today with a tough loss to Fitchburg State College. The Gulls lost the game 52-17. The story of the game was penalties and turnovers for the Gulls. Endicott threw five interceptions and fumbled twice. They also racked up seven penalties.

The first half saw Fitchburg State score on its second drive on a 66 yard touchdown pass by Falcon's quarterback Corey Hetherman to wide receiver Justin Sleeper. The Gulls would answer when Ryan MacLean took the ensuing kickoff 60 yards to the Falcon 29 yard line. On 4th and goal to go from the 2 yard line, Gerard Festa punched in the Gulls first points. Adam Maher would add the extra point to tie the score at seven. The Gulls then drove the ball into Falcon territory again and Maher lined up and hit a 30 yard field goal with 24 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

The Falcon's would come back in the 2nd quarter and score on two consecutive drives led by Hetherman. Two 15 yard strikes saw the Gulls go down 21-10. With 4:11 left in the second quarter Jeff Trinque would dive for the pylon and score the Gulls second touchdown of the day.

The second half saw the Falcon's come out flying. Gulls quarterback Alex Smith would throw an interception on their first drive which was returned to the Endicott 1 yard line. Nafie Pollard would then add the 1 yard plunge to put the Falcons up 28-17. The Falcons would then turn to trickery for their next score as wide receiver Caleb McKenzie completed a 27 yard reverse pass to Justin Sleeper. Trevor Smith would tack on the extra point to put the Falcons up 35-17.

The Gulls then shot themselves in the foot when the ball sailed over quarterback Vinny Orlando's head on a shotgun snap for a safety. The next drive saw Festa fumble allowing the Falcons to start at the Gulls 14 yard line. Hetherman would once again connect with Sleeper for a 14 yard touchdown shot. With 1:38 left in the 3rd quarter, Smith punted to MacLean who fumbled the ball into his end zone where he recovered it for a safety.

Fitchburg running back Brian Millesian would score on a 42 yard scamper to start the 4th quarter. Evan Rosenberg would block the extra point, leaving the score final score 52-17.

On defense, captain Joe Leaver finished with 7 tackles, 1 for loss, and 1 fumble recovery. Joe DePamphilis also chipped in with 5.5 tackles. Ryan MacLean finished the day with 8 returns for 151 yards on special teams.

The Gulls play next on Saturday October 16th at Salve Regina. The game is slated to start at 1pm.
