Gulls Knocked Out of ECAC Regional Tournament

Gulls Knocked Out of ECAC Regional Tournament

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott College women's soccer team were eliminated from the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament Wednesday afternoon after a 3-1 loss at Umass Boston.

The Beacons, seeded fourth in the tournament, got a hat trick from freshman Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) to knock off the \#5 Gulls, who end their season with a 12-9 record.

First year Hannah Schneidenbach (Charlestown, R.I.) headed home her first goal of the year off of a Clare Mansfield (Stoneham, Mass.) corner kick in the 66th minute to pull the Gulls back within a goal at 2-1.  Schneidenbach crashed the goal at the exact moment that Mansfield blasted the ball in.  She then drove the ball to the near post to make it just a one-goal game, with plenty of time left on the clock.

Nine minutes later, however, Ledin would seal the victory for UMass, when she crushed the ball to the far post from about 15 yards out.

Ledin got her afternoon started in the 11th minute, when she caught up to a long pass from senior Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, Mass.), which she then tapped around Endicott goalkeeper Natalie Wyrsch (Dover, N.H.) and into the near post corner to make it 1-0 in favor of the Beacons.

From there the first half would turn into a stalemate, with both teams spending most of the half battling it out in the middle of the field.  Endicott went on to lead the first 45 minutes of plays in shots with five, while UMass was only able to get off just two shots.

Twenty-two minutes after the break, Ledin picked-up another long pass, this time from Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.), and beat Wyrsch to the near post to give UMass a two goal advantage.

With three goals, Lepin notched her fifth hat-trick of the season. She was the 2011 Little East Conference Rookie of the Year and broke the UMass Boston records for goals in a season (23) and points in a season (50) in just her first collegiate year.

On the day, Endicott led the match in shots, 10-5, while UMass held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Dani Perkins (Murietta, Calif.) for UMass Boston tallied just one save to win her 13th game of the year.  Wyrsch managed three saves for the Gulls.

The Beacons (14-6-2) will now face the winner of the \#1 Worcester State University and \#8 University of New England match on Saturday.
