BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott asserted their position at the top of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women’s lacrosse standings Tuesday afternoon by knocking off the only other unbeaten team. The Gulls led from the beginning of play and the end result was a 15-4 win over the University of New England Nor’easters.

The Gulls stay perfect in the conference at 6-0 and improve their record to 9-4 overall, while UNE suffers its first conference loss and drops to 11-3 (5-1 CCC).

Endicott senior Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.), who earlier today was named CCC Offensive Player of the Week, made sure there was no mistake, scoring five times and assisting on three more goals. DeShaw now has 43 goals on the year, while Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.), who scored three times, also reached the 40-goal plateau for the season in this game.

Endicott shut down an offensive attack that was averaging 15 goals a game and held Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), UNE’s leading scorer with 53 tallies, off of the score sheet. Endicott sophomore goalie Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) made six saves in the final twenty minutes of play after coming on to back up Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine), who made three stops.

DeShaw and Davis got the Gulls off in the right direction, with each scoring two of the first five goals as Endicott jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Senior captain Michelle Loizzo (Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied the second goal of the game on an assist from Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.). Tierney also had a hat trick, scoring once in the first half and twice in succession to start the second.

Junior Cara Cole (Norwood, Mass.) broke the drought for UNE halfway through the first half with her 24th goal of the year, but Endicott began a 9-0 run that started with Davis completing her hat trick and continued until the 16:16 mark of the second period when UNE grabbed two goals by senior captain Jesalyn Dvorak (Windsor, Conn.) and Rachel Schwaner (Holderness, N.H.).

Endicott junior Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.) tallied her sixth goal of the season before Dvorak closed the game with her second goal of the day, giving her 17 on the year.

Tavella did win five draw controls, as the visitors had a 15-6 edge in that particular statistic, including an 8-0 advantage in the second half. Her teammate Emily Lodge (Lyman, Maine) also collected five draw controls for UNE and led the Nor’easters with four ground balls.

Endicott forced UNE into 13 turnovers, led by Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who caused three of them and also grabbed three ground balls. Kelsey Barnes (Brookside, N.J.) had four ground balls herself, to lead the Endicott field players.

Campos also scored a goal for Endicott, while sophomore Callie Murphy (Wobrun, Mass.) had a goal and two assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine) took her third loss of the year, making ten stops as the Gulls outshot their opponents 31-21.

Endicott will celebrate Senior Night at their final home game of the regular season, a 4:00 PM start on Thursday against non-conference foe Babson College.

UNE will travel to Middletown, R.I. on Saturday for their final conference game, a 12:00 pm meeting with Salve Regina.
