Women’s Hockey Ties UML, Comeback Falls Short at Bates

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott's women's club ice hockey program played to a 2-2 overtime tie with UMass Lowell this weekend and then fell to Bates 5-4 after a furious third quarter comeback fell just short.

The Gulls now have a record of 2-2-1 on the season, with three more games to go before their holiday break.

Sophomore goalie Gretchen St. Pierre (Colchester, Vt.) had 37 saves, including 5 in overtime and Endicott took a 2-0 lead into the third period in a home matchup Saturday against the Riverhawks of UMass Lowell. Sophomore MacKenzie Hurst (Guilford, N.H.) scored a goal and an assist, while Jesse Bilafer also tallied for Endicott, with Sam Parr (Dedham, Mass.) having the other assist.

On Sunday Endicott trailed 5-2 entering the 3rd period of play and nearly tied the game with two goals by Bilafer and a scramble in the crease as the final buzzer sounded, with Parr, Bilafer and freshman Lindsey Sneider (Falmouth, Maine) all involved in the pressure. Parr and Sneider each scored earlier in the game for the Gulls.

Second year Taylor Witham (Cumberland, Maine) made 20 saves over the first two periods and St. Pierre came in to make 7 saves in the third period.

Endicott's next two games are both against Smith College. The home and home series starts Saturday in Salem, Mass. at 7:30, with the return at Smith on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
