Second Half Surge Sends Endicott Past Emerson



BOSTON, MA—A wide advantage in rebounds and steals and the hot shooting hand of sophomore Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) led the Endicott College Gulls to a 67-49 victory over the Emerson Lions in non-confernece women's basketball action on Thursday night. The Gulls forced 19 turnovers while handing Emerson their sixth loss in a row.

The Gulls improved to 3-3 on the season, to go with a 1-1 mark in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

Endicott outrebounded the Lions 21-10 in the first half and opened up a 32-24 score by the break. The Gulls also forced Emerson into 12 turnovers in the first stanza and limited leading scorer Olivia DiNucci to only one shot attempt and no points.  

Emerson came out of the breakwith a sense of urgency, scoring four quick points, but Endicott went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead and put the game out of reach.  

Crough finished as the game's leading scorer with 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Endicott also received double-digit point totals from sophomore Jordan Ferland (Charlestown, N.H.) (14) and junior Jen McBrien (Medfield, Mass.) (10) as they collected 20 second chance points as a team. McBrien also added seven assists, while Ferland had two blocks for the Gulls, with both players coming off the bench for Endicott.
 
Senior Nicole Heffernan (Londonderry, N.H.) assisted on five baskets and led the team with four steals. Jennifer White (Lisbon, N.H.) pitched in six points and nine rebounds in the winning effort.
 
The junior DiNucci was the high scorer for the Lions, chipping in 16 points, all of which came in the second half. Sophomore Olivia Connors scored 12 points and also pulled down nine rebounds in the loss.
 
 The Gulls will be back in action on Saturday at 3:00 pm when they host the Rams of Suffolk University. Emerson's next game is Saturday at the Brown-Plofker Gymnaisum against Bowdoin College. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
