BABSON PARK, Mass. – Endicott softball pitching surrendered three homeruns in an 8-4 loss to Babson in game one of a doubleheader versus Babson on Thursday afternoon.  Game two was cancelled due to rain as the Gulls dropped their overall record to 13-11.

Endicott jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the first after junior leadoff batter Jocelyn Russo (Middletown, Conn.) reached on a single and later scored on a squeeze bunt by Kelley Michael (Ipswich, Mass.).  Babson would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning after junior Jackie Enos (Taunton, Mass.) tripled and scored on an RBI double by Catie Funk (Scarborough, Maine).

The Blue and Green would not score until the top of the seventh as Babson scored seven unanswered runs thanks in part to three homeruns by the Beavers.  Funk connected on two long balls and sophomore Kelly King (Kennebunk, Maine) added one more in the game one win.

Funk finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two homeruns and five RBI.

In the top of the seventh, junior Krista Fales (Melrose, Mass.) roped a single up the middle to plate Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) and Michael and would later score on an RBI double to right center by Colleen Martin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).

Russo, Bilafer, Fales and Martin all finished with two hits.

On the mound for the Gulls, freshman Cam Sprague (Clifton Park, N.Y.) struck out six batters in 5 2/3 innings.  She surrendered all eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits and two walks.  Sprague dropped to 3-4 on the season.

Endicott returns to their conference schedule at home on Saturday against Wentworth for a twinbill starting at 12:00 pm.
