Endicott runs hard at NEICAAA Championships
BOSTON, Mass. - The Endicott College men’s and women’s cross country teams both participated in the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association’s 2009 Cross Country Championships held on Saturday in Boston, Mass. Both teams competed with over 40 other institutions with fields of over 300 in both the men’s and women’s races.

For the men, \#Greg Payne\# (North Attleboro, Mass.) paced the Gulls as he finished 255th in the 320 runner field with a time of 27:59. \#Tom Rofrano\# (Sayville, N.Y.) and \#Sam Turner\# (Portland, Maine) finished back-to-back with times of 31:30 and 31:34, finishing 303rd and 304th, respectively, to round out the top finishes for the Gulls.

AIC’s Glarius Rop took home the individual win with a time of 24:22. UConn’s William Sanders placed second in the field with Williams’ Edgar Kosgey rounding out the top three with his time of 24:41. UMass-Lowell won the team portion of the race with UMass-Amherst finishing second and Providence College finishing off the top three.

On the women’s side, freshman \#Kim Shepherd\# (Essex, Conn.) crossed the finish line at 21:11 for a 238th place finish. \#Holly Davis\# (Guilford, Conn.) finished at 21:52 while \#Brittaney Plante\# (Nashua, N.H.) placed 284th with her time of 22:16.

Brown University won the team event while Boston College and Dartmouth University rounded out the top three. The University of Maine’s Corey Connor won the individual race with her time of 17:36. Brown’s Ari Garber and MIT’s Jacqui Wentz finished second and third, just seconds apart, with time of 18:06 and 18:08, respectively.

Both teams return to action on Saturday when the Gulls travel to Springfield, Mass. for the Western New England College Invitational. The women take off at 10:30 a.m. with the men to follow at 11:15 a.m.
