Endicott battles Tufts on the road; fall 2-0
Box Score

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – In a non-conference showdown with NESCAC foe Tufts on the road, the Endicott men’s soccer team fell 2-0.  The Gulls kept the Jumbos scoreless until the second half and nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute when a header by sophomore Alex Elia (Somers, Conn.) grazed the left post.

In the first half of play, the Jumbos looked to get out to a lead in the first half, but Endicott freshman goalkeeper and this week’s CCC Defensive and Rookie of the Week Aaron Kanter (Medfield, Mass.) made three crucial saves to keep his squad in the match.

In the 15th minute, Tufts freshman Gus Santos (Framingham, Mass.) fired a shot straight in from the box but Kanter was able to punch the ball out for the save.  Three minutes later, Santos attempted a header off a cross but Kanter was once again there to make the stop.

Alex Elia’s opportunity in the 55th minute nearly gave Endicott the lead, but the header shot trickled by the left post and out of bounds.

The Jumbos would tally their first goal the match seven minutes later as a chip shot along the right side by freshman Kyle Volpe (Blackstone, Mass.) went over the keeper’s head and just under the crossbar for a goal.  An assist went to Tufts junior John Lewis (East Greenich, R.I.).

Tufts’ second goal four minutes later in the 66th minute after an initial shot by Santos struck off the corner of the post directly to freshman Maxime Hoppenot (Princeton, N.J.) who headed home the shot past Kanter.

Endicott dropped to 0-6-2 on the season and will take on Westfield State on Thursday at 7:00 pm on the road.  Tufts improved to 3-1-1 on the year and will return to their conference schedule as they travel to Amherst on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
