INTERNSHIP INSIGHT: Mike Nunez Lands Internship With N.E. Flag Football Through Endicott Career Fair

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Mike Nunez (Holyoke, Mass.), who is a Sport Management major and a member of the men's rugby program, recently completed an internship at New England Flag Football. Here's a look into his internship experience.

1) Why New England Flag Football?

I chose New England Flag Football because it gave me the opportunity to experience and learn what goes into organizing/running youth football and basketball camps successfully. It also gave me the opportunity to work with kids all across the North Shore and not only teach them important skills and lessons in sports, but also teach them life lessons along the way.

2) What was the process like to obtain your internship?

The process was fairly simple honestly as I actually met my current internship supervisor briefly at the internship fair this past spring. I decided to give him an email a couple of days after about my interest and he emailed me back wanting to schedule an interview, and once we had the interview, it was clear to us that it was the perfect opportunity for me to apply all of what I've learned the past three years being a Sport Management major.

NOTE: The Endicott College Internship, Co-Op, & Career Fair is an invaluable resource throughout a student's Endicott experience to grow their network of industry contacts, meet with potential employers, and become familiar with the professional community.

3) Describe your overall internship experience.

My internship experience has been great and the rest of the staff has been very welcoming and helpful in making the work environment a really enjoyable place to be. I also enjoyed seeing kids having fun and helping create memories for the kids that they'll remember for a long time because that's really what it's all about.

4) What have you learned from your internship?

I've learned the importance of a positive workplace environment and how a strong workplace culture is created. Everyone at New England Flag Football had the same objective, which was to make the kids week-long camp the best experience it could possibly be in hopes of them wanting to return for a camp in the future. I also learned about the large amount of preparation that goes into organizing a camp every week because it's not only about getting kids to come to the camp, but it also is about finding facilities and fields to hold the camps.

5) How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

This internship allowed me to make numerous connections in the sports industry and the North Shore and if the opportunity presented itself, I know I can use those connections in the near future.
