Resilient Gulls Come Back To Win CCC Men’s Golf Championship

WILBRAHAM, Mass. — Sitting in fourth place after the first round of competition, the Endicott men's golf team used a resilient effort to erase a five-stroke deficit and capture the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship behind a tournament-low score of 293 for its first title since 2017.

All 36 holes of the 2019 CCC Golf Championship were played on Sunday at The Country Club of Wilbraham due to unplayable conditions on Saturday making the Gulls' rally in round two to win the championship even that more impressive.

Based upon available data, Endicott's performance on Sunday marked the biggest difference (-25) in round one and round two scores in CCC Championship history.

Along with winning the CCC title, Endicott has earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which will take place from May 14-17 in Nicholasville, Ky. at the Keene Trace Golf Club.

The Gulls will represent their program and the CCC for the third time after winning conference titles in 2014 and 2017. Overall, this is the seventh CCC title in program history for Endicott.

Carter Knox (Hinesburg, Vt.) led the Gulls with a two-round score of 147 (76, 71) to finish second overall.

Connor Brown (Granby, Conn.) followed in seventh place (154, 81/73), while Christopher Billings (Portland, Maine) tied for eighth place (156, 84/72).

The Gulls also saw Kenneth Tuttle (Gorham, Maine) rank tied for 15th overall (163, 86/77) and Dylan Seeber (New Hartford, N.Y.) round out the group in 19th place (166, 77/89).

BEYOND THE SCORECARD

Billings shot even on par 3 scoring, while Knox was even on both par 4 and par 5 holes.
Knox paced the Gulls and the tournament field with nine birdies.
Billings and Brown both finished first on the team with 21 pars.
Billings also dropped 12 strokes off his first round score, the most by any student-athlete in the tournament.
The Gulls were the only team to shoot under 300 in either round of competition today.
In the 2017 CCC Championship, Nichols produced a 21-stroke difference from round one to round two (previous known best).
