Crew Team Wrapup

June 10, 2007

The crew team concluded the Spring Season on a very positive note after a tough fall and winter practice schedule. The women had their first taste of competition in their young history, traveling to UNH on the 14th of April for a scrimmage. While the team lost each race, small victories included a surge in morale and team chemistry with improved time in each race.

On April 22, the team traveled to Worcester to race on Lake Quinsigamond in the first official competition. Entering two 4s in the Women's Novice Class against Clark, WPI, Assumption, and Tufts, the Gulls took the fifth and sixth spots but kept up with the competition and finished only a few lengths back.

"So much was accomplished this spring by just getting to race for the first time," said Jeb Rumbough, Assistant Coach. "We had a tough spring for practicing. Weather and ice prevented us from getting in much rowing before our races. The Gulls competed very well in Worcester, and I am very pleased by their progress. I look forward to this fall when we plan to compete in at least three regattas".

The team would like to wish Coach Paul Bea good luck in his new position as Director of Rowing at Greater Lawrence Community Rowing. He has been instrumental in the development and progression of the team, and will continue serving us a friend in the rowing community.
