BEVERLY, Mass. – In a Sunday CCC doubleheader, the Endicott baseball team split with Western New England to see their 2015 season record move to 16-9 (10-2 CCC). The Gulls host Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. for non-conference action before traveling to #21/26 Southern Maine for the second game of a home and home doubleheader.

Game One: Western New Eng. 8, Endicott 0

Western New England senior pitcher Trevor Breton (Enfield, Conn.) tossed a complete-game shutout, going seven innings strong on the mound for the Golden Bears. Breton's record improved to 2-2 on the year as he scattered six hits and one walk while striking out four batters.

The Western New England bats erupted in the top of the third with six runs on six hits with all runs being driven in by four doubles in the inning. Junior shortstop Kevin Marciano (Pepperell, Mass.) hit a two-RBI double down the left field line and later scored himself on a double to center off the bat of senior catcher Matt Anziano (Belchertown, Mass.). With runners on the corners and one out, senior first baseman Stephen Buckley (Monroe, Conn.) found the gap in right center for a double to score both runners. Sophomore third baseman Daniel Morin (Salem, N.H.) capped off the scoring in the top of the third with a ground-rule double to left center to bring Buckley around for the sixth run of the at bat.

The Golden Bears would tack on another run in the top of the fifth after Anziano tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a RBI groundout by junior Doug Milne (Nesconset, N.Y.).

In the third, fifth, and sixth innings, Endicott would put runners on first and second base with no outs but in each inning Western New England escaped the jam with no damage done to keep the Blue and Green scoreless. Junior first baseman Nick De Lotto (Southbury, Conn.) and junior catcher Josh Drew (Intervale, N.H.) each did their part offensively by getting on base twice in the game but no runner advanced further than third base.

Buckley knocked in one final run in the top of the seventh on a single to left center scoring Anziano, who finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a RBI, and a walk. Marciano had two hits, two RBIs, a run scored, and a stolen base for the visitors.

Game Two: Endicott 5, Western New Eng. 1

Endicott's junior right-handed starter Davarn Nova (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) quieted the Western New England lineup for the majority of his 4 2/3 innings pitched and allowed the Gulls to take their first lead of the day after freshman left fielder Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the third to score pinch-runner Dan Zabbo (Dracut, Mass.).

Western New England responded by tying the game in the top of the fifth on a RBI single through the left side of the infield by Anziano that scored junior Scott Hubener (Mendon, Mass.) who was aided on the base paths by a Gulls error on a failed pickoff attempt to get into scoring position.

Endicott, however, would waste no time in regaining the lead and building a convincing 5-1 advantage. The Gulls were helped by two Western New England errors in the inning as they saw junior Cody Hall (Rutland, Mass.) score from third. Hall had walked, stole second, and advantage to third on a throwing error to get within 90 feet of home. Senior Harry Oringer's chopper to third with the bases loaded and Hall on third brought the play home but the throw went wild to also allow Cam Farnham (Andover, Mass.) to score from second base. Sophomore third baseman Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) grounded out to third to plate DeDonato and junior designated hitter Anthony Serina (Portsmouth, R.I.) lined a single to center to score Oringer for the 5-1 Endicott lead.

Junior reliever Nick Quattro (Canton, Conn.) once again pitched well in the latter part of a conference game to earn the win, his fifth of the year. Quattro went 2 1/3 innings, allowed just one hit, and struck out five of the seven outs he recorded.
