SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Gulls were fueled by a great pitching performance by junior Mike Daggett (Sabattus, ME/Oak Hill Regional) who allowed just one run over seven innings as Endicott defeated the Pride of Springfield College this afternoon 11-1. This was the Gulls first out-of-conference win since they have returned from their spring trip.
The Gulls controlled the game from the beginning by taking advantage of two Pride errors to score five runs. Endicott drove in three more runs in the top of the second to increase its lead to 8-0. Key RBI hits for the Gulls came from freshman left fielder Joe Paciello (Worcester, MA/St. Peter Marian), who went 3-for-3 with three RBI's, and sophomore catcher Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, MA/ East Longmeadow) who finished 2-5 also with three RBI's. The top four batters in the order for the Gulls; Paciello, senior Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA/Woburn), junior Steve Vidmosko (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) and junior Erik Fields (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) combined for eight of the 11 runs. Junior Joe Orlando (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) also went 3-4 with three singles.
Senior shortstop Chris McCarthy (East Longmeadow, MA) scored the Pride's lone run on an RBI double by senior third baseman Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, MA) in the bottom of the seventh. McCarthy scored his team-high 28th run of the season and went 3-for-5 on the day to improve his team-best batting average to .355.
Daggett picked up his first win of the season, improving his record to 1-2 while Senior Carl Longo (Manchester, NH) was credited with the loss for the Pride, and is now 2-2.
The Gulls are back home to host Western New England College this Wednesday at 4:30pm before they finish their CCC regular season with a pair of doubleheaders this weekend against Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday April 22 and facing conference rival Salve Regina on Sunday April 23.
