Gulls Cruise To 88-62 Win Over UNE; Hit Season-High 16 Treys

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's basketball team cruised to an 88-62 win over visiting University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday night inside MacDonald Gymnasium thanks to a season-high 16 three-pointers from nine different Gulls.

With the win, the Gulls moved to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while University of New England dropped to 9-7 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.

The Gulls raced out on a 5-0 run at the 19:12 mark to begin the game on a three-pointer and layup by junior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.), though the Nor'easters stormed back for the only tie of the game at 7-all as sophomore guard Drew Coveney (Londonderry, N.H.) made a layup with 15:15 to play in the first half.

Endicott went on another run, this time of the 6-0 variety, to make the score 16-10 with 13:28 on the clock and mounted an eight-point lead (23-16) with eight minutes to play before the break.

UNE inched closer with a pair of free throws from junior forward Matt Lettick (Orange, Conn.) at the 3:29 mark as the Nor'easters trailed 26-23 as the closest they would get for the remainder of the game before Endicott headed into halftime with a 40-30 advantage.

It was all Endicott in the second half as the Gulls out-scored the Nor'easters, 48-32, and connected on 10-of-17 from three point range en route to an 88-62 victory.

Motroni paced Endicott with a game-high 23 points on 9-10 FG, 4-of-5 three-point range and 1-2 FT, alongside four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes of action.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Walker extended his double-digit scoring streak to 28 straight games with 20 points, one rebound, and six assists.
  • Junior forward Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.) chipped in five points to go with a game-high nine rebounds.
  • The Gulls out-rebounded the Nor'easters, 38-34.
  • The Gulls hit a season—high 16-of-28 three-pointers from nine different student-athletes, as Motroni had four of them.

FOR THE FOES

  • Junior forward Matt Lettick (Orange, Conn.) led the way for the Nor'easters with 12 points and three rebounds.
  • Sophomore guard Gavin Dibble (Greenport, N.Y.) also was in double-digit as he chipped in 13 points to go with three rebounds.

NOTES

  • Endicott is now 19-10 all-time against the Nor'easters, as the most recent meeting before today was a 72-50 win at home on Jan. 29, 2015.
  • The Gulls have won five in a row in head-to-head matchups and are 10-4 all-time at home dating back to the 1995 season.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, January 23 at 3:00 p.m. as the Gulls (10-6, 7-2 CCC) go on the road to face Eastern Nazarene College and University of New England (9-7, 4-5 CCC) hosts Western New England University.
