John Henault, a senior from Lunenberg, Mass., has been chosen for the focus of this installment of the “Endicott Student-Athlete Spotlight” for his works both on the court, and even more important, off of it. John is a Sport Management major that has been a member of the men's basketball team for four years. During that time, the team has won one CCC Championship, and individually, John eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark last season as a junior. We were able to catch up with the senior and ask him a few questions for the Spotlight.
Why did you choose to be a Division III
student-athlete?
I wanted to go to a school where I thought I could come in as a
freshman and make an impact right away. When you're at the Division
I or Division II level playing a sport becomes a job. Being a
Division III athlete is equally as competitive but gives you time
to focus on academics while also being able to have a social life.
It's been the ultimate experience and Endicott was really just the
perfect fit for me.
What do you like most about being a student-athlete at
Endicott?
The people I've met through being a student-athlete has been the
best part for me. Everyday I'm surrounded by motivated and
dedicated individuals who are looking to reach the same goals as I
am. My teammates, coaches, other student-athletes, and the entire
athletic department are a great group of people who want to see
each other succeed both on and off the court.
What are some of the greatest lessons you have learned
from being a student-athlete?
The greatest lesson I've learned from being a student-athlete is
how to fight through adversity. We are all going to succeed and we
are all going to fail. There are going to be times when things
aren't going your way but at the end of the day everything works
out and happens for a reason. We learn more from our failures than
we do from our success.
Who have been the most influence people in your athletic
career?
My family and friends.
How would your teammates describe you?
My teammates would describe me as a hard working individual both
on and off the court who is always willing to lend a helping hand
if needed.
Do you have any pre-game/pre-event rituals? If so, what
are they?
1. Saying a prayer to myself at a specific time during the
National Anthem 2. Jumping as high as I can twice in the same spot
before tip-off
What is your greatest sports moment?
Winning the CCC title in 2012.
Which public figure (athlete, politician, entertainer,
etc) would you most like to meet and what one question would you
ask them?
I spent a lot more time on this question than I probably should
have. It was impossible for me to narrow it down to just one
person. If I could hang out with any 5 public figures ever I would
have to go with Johnny Manziel, Dave Matthews, Dan Bilzerian, Dave
Chappelle, and Jesus Christ.
What internships have you completed (or are a part of
now)? What benefit have you gotten out of them?
Freshman year: Worcester Tornadoes semi-professional baseball team
Sophomore year: Boston Amateur Basketball Club AAU Program
Currently: Boston Celtics
If you have been involved in community service projects,
what project has been the most rewarding and why?
Going to read to elementary school students in Beverly is always a
great experience and a lot of fun. They really look up to us and
give us something to look forward to over January break. It's a
rewarding feeling knowing how much they enjoy when we come and
visit.
Name three things on your "bucket list".
1. Traveling the world 2. Skydiving 3. Play with a
chimpanzee
Where do you see yourself in 10 years after graduation?
What is your dream job?
General Manager of the Boston Celtics.
What would you say to someone currently in high school who
is considering attending Endicott?
This is an amazing school with nothing but incredible people. It's
only getting better from here and would be extremely beneficial to
your future.
Is there something about you that we don't know? Tell is
something special about yourself that we haven't
asked!
I'm 50% Greek, enjoy snowboarding during the winter time, and
fishing and skateboarding in the summer.
