Endicott Falls to No. 12 Wesleyan 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team fell to AVCA nationally-ranked No. 12 Wesleyan 3-0 in non-conference play on Friday night. The loss drops Endicott to 14-5 overall on the season, while Wesleyan improves to 16-1.

The first set saw the Gulls and Cardinals battle to extra points, with Endicott out-hitting the visitors by a .318 (18-4-44) to .292 (21-7-48) margin, but falling by two, 28-26. The second set would prove to be another close one with both offenses producing at a high level again, but the Gulls would come up just shot, 25-21. The third set saw Wesleyan pull away in the middle of the set and finish with a 25-14 win to score the 3-0 victory.

Freshman Kelsey Sanborn (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with a team-high 10 kills and a team-best .364 average (10-2-22) to go with three digs and a solo block. Joining her on the outside was Amanda Gilbert (West Falmouth, Mass.) who finished with five kills and a match-high 13 digs in the setback.

Endicott's right-side attack was a focal point all night as Krystina Schueler (Trumbull, Conn.) and Sophie Breitenbach (Newport, R.I.) teamed up for 17 kills. Schueler finished with nine kills on 22 swings and hit .273 (9-3-22) while tying for the match-high mark with three blocks (1S-2A). Breitenbach finished with eight kills of her own and hit .286 after finishing with an 8-2-21 line. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) tied Breitenbach with her .286 average after finishing with six kills on 14 swings to go with seven digs.
  • Setters Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) and Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) finished with 19 and 17 assists, respectively. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott, now 14-5 overall and 5-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, travels to Coast Guard tomorrow a 4:00 PM start, while Wesleyan, now 16-1, 7-0 in NESCAC play, travels to Bowdoin tomorrow at noon.
