Overtime goal earns Gulls a 1-0 win over Babson

Boxscore

Babson Park, Mass. – Endicott women's soccer leading scorer, junior \#Colleen Pepin\# (Fairhaven, Mass.), continued to provide offense in clutch situations as the forward netted the game-winning goal four minutes into the first overtime of a scoreless match against NEWMAC opponent Babson College. The Gulls won 1-0 and improved to 5-2-1 (3-0 TCCC) on the season.

Midway through the first overtime, the Beavers defense failed to clear a ball out of the goalie box and Pepin collected the errant ball to go one-on-one with Babson junior keeper Lisa Wojnar (Bellaire, Texas). Pepin's shot deflected off the goalie's hands, hitting the bottom of the crossbar and barely crossing the goal line for the match-ending score.

For Pepin, it was her fifth goal of the season and her second game-winning goal in-a-row. She has three on the season.

Endicott nearly scored in the 40th minute, but sophomore \#Chelsea Garlock\#'s (Meriden, Conn.) bid from the right side of the box glanced off the crossbar and was cleared by the Babson defense.

Babson countered with two chances to score in the second half, but it was Gulls freshman keeper \#Natalie Wyrsch\# (Dover, N.H.) who made a pair of diving stops to deny a Beaver goal. Later in the second half, the Blue and Green aimed to avoid overtime with under five minutes remaining in regulation as Pepin hit a bending shot from the top of the box, but Wojnar made a one-handed deflection to her right and then covered the ball to help force extra time.

Pepin's goal in overtime broke a spring of 564 consecutive scoreless minutes for Wojnar, who finished the game with five saves with one goal allowed. Wyrsch equaled her counterpart with five saves as she earned her third shutout of the season.

Babson falls to 5-2-1 with the loss. Endicott breaks their winless mark against NEWMAC opponents this season, improving to 1-2 after having lost to Wheaton College and Wellesley College.

Endicott returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 25 for a 12:30 pm showdown with TCCC opponent Eastern Nazarene in Quincy.
