BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College scored three unanswered goals, two of which came off the foot of junior Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.), as the Gulls downed the University of New England, 3-1, in a pivotal The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer game on Tuesday afternoon in Beverly, Massachusetts. The win gives Endicott sole possession of first place in the conference with an 11-0-1 record (12-2-2 overall), while the Nor'easters slide to 11-3 and 9-2 in the TCCC.
The University of New England got on the board first as Cassie Zdrojeski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) gathered a loose ball inside the box and buried a shot past Amy Meuse (Saugus, Mass.) just 8:03 into the first half for the 1-0 lead.
Endicott responded just 5:01 later when Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) had time to set her feet from 25-yards out, lofting a well-placed ball over a back peddling Leigh Engel (Richmondville, N.Y.) to knot the game at 1-all. Flynn wasn't done scoring as she notched her second of the day in the 33rd minute as she caused a turnover inside the Nor'easter box, firing a bid just inside the left post to give Endicott a 2-1 lead at the intermission.
Kayla Corbett (Danvers, Mass.) tacked on the insurance goal at 52:38 as she converted a nice pass from Allyson Bellemore (Manchester, N.H.) into the lower-right side of the visitor's goal for the 3-1 advantage. Endicott outshot UNE 29-5, and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Amy Meuse was called upon to make just two saves in the winning effort. Her counterpart Leigh Engel made seven stops for the Nor'easters.
Endicott wraps up its The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon as the Gulls host Anna Maria College on Senior Day. The University of New England returns to action on the same day at Western New England College.
