SALEM, Mass. - Salem State College got goals from freshman Jennifer Surabian and sophomore Erin O'Brien (Hanson, Mass.) en route to a 2-0 season-opening win over Endicott College on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field. The loss drops the Gulls to 1-1 while SSC improves to 1-0.
Surabian's first collegiate shot on net resulted in a 1-0 lead for the Lady Vikings in the first half. O'Brien added an all-important insurance goal when she blasted home a penalty kick opportunity with 19:41 to play in the second half.
The Vikings received five saves from freshman goalkeeper Leah Potcner (Wilmington, Mass.) while the Gulls' (1-1) Nicole Lawlor (Mansfield, Mass.) made three stops. EC entered the match as the No. 8 ranked team in New England's Division III.
Endicott looks to get back on track on Saturday afternoon as the Gulls travel to Williams College for a 12:00 p.m. tilt with the Ephs. Salem State hopes to stay unbeaten on the same day as it squares-off with WPI at 1:00 p.m.
