BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference final, scoring four times in the second half to beat Roger Williams in the semifinals Wednesday night.
The top-seeded Gulls will host No. 2 Gordon College, which defeated Wentworth, 3-0, in its semifinal match, Saturday at 1:00 PM. Endicott has won the last two CCC titles and has three CCC titles in the last four seasons.
Paula McGinn (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical) began the scoring in the 12th minute on a head ball from Jillian Zagura (Hudson, MA/Hudson). Zagura found McGinn at the six-yard line and the sophomore striker went up to get the end line cross, depositing it in the back of the net.
McGinn barely missed a breakaway less than 30 seconds later and hit the crossbar with 18 minutes remaining in the first half as it remained 1-0 EC advantage heading into the final 45 minutes of play.
The Gulls (14-3-1) looked like they were shot out of a cannon in the second half and the Hawks (11-8-0) could not respond. Endicott grabbed a 2-0 cushion 38 ticks into the second half on an unassisted tally by Caitlin D'Amario (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow). Erica Hunt (Colchester, VT/Colchester) was on the board less than five minutes later set up by Margreta Weber (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) while Shannon Pillsbury (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) and Beth Walker (Manchester, NH/Manchester Central) rounded out the Gulls' scoring. Kelly Dillon (Franklin, MA/Franklin) picked up an assist on the final goal while Zagura assisted on Walker's tally.
Roger Williams' Caitlin Mayo (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) scored in the 78th minute on a feed from Nicole Gillis (Prospect, CT/St. Margaret's-McTernan).
Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F.D. Roosevelt) made four saves in recording the win in goal for Endicott while Megan Banville (Topsfield, MA/Masconomet) and Kayla Leonard (Oaks Bluff, MA/Martha's Vinevard) split time in goal for the Hawks.
